Carl Froch thanks Tommy Fury for ‘obliterating’ Jake Paul

Carl Froch ripped into Jake Paul after his was beaten by Tommy Fury on Sunday evening, calling the ‘terrible’ YouTuber-turned-boxer ‘hapless’ and ‘basic’. 

Fury beat Paul via split decision in Saudi Arabia on Sunday night – with one judge scoring it 75-74 to Paul and the other two scoring it 76-73 to Fury. 

Froch said Fury ‘obliterated’ Paul and credited the 23-year-old will doing ‘professional boxing purists a massive favour by shutting up Jake Paul’.  

Speaking after the fight, Froch said: ‘I had the scorecard exactly the same as two of the judges – 76-73 [in favour of Tommy Fury]. 

‘I thought the score was bang on, to be honest. The point deductions were a bit dubious, but the referee balanced it out by taking a point from both fighters.

‘I thought the score was right, the right man won. Tommy Fury put in a decent performance for the level of where he is in his career. 

‘That was a decent performance. Put his shots together, believed in himself. Was on the back-foot for large periods of the fight looking for the counter.

‘He got a thoroughly deserved win against a really basic, hapless Jake Paul. He was terrible in there.’

He went on to add: ‘He’s done professional boxing purists a massive favour by shutting up Jake Paul. He can’t call himself a professional boxer because he’s gone in against a novice pro and got absolutely whooped. He got obliterated.’

Froch’s comments about Paul came just days after he said he would knock the YouTuber-turned-boxer ‘into f***ing orbit’. 

Paul reignited his war of words with former super-middleweight world champ Froch earlier this week. 

Paul tweeted: ‘Carl Froch mad because I made more in one year than he made his whole career. You want the payday. I get it.

‘So let’s do this, fight Anderson Silva on my next card and if you get lucky and beat him, then we can step in the ring and you make your career payday. Let me know.’

Froch replied: ‘So, Jake Paul has called me out on his social media. Apparently he wants to fight me. Just in case you didn’t know, my last fight was at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 fans.

‘I won’t be fighting the mixed martial arts legend Anderson Silva on your undercard. I’ve got too much respect for him. And your punch when you boxed him, did that even land? Very dubious.

‘You’ve got a job to do against Tommy Fury. If by some miracle you manage to beat Tommy Fury, then I’ll listen to you.

‘I’ll have a little chat with you and see what garbage comes out of your mouth. See what you’ve got to say.

‘But until then, don’t talk about me in the same league as you. I’m a four-time world champion. Two WBC titles there. You’ll never, ever have one of them.

‘You’re not good enough. You’re not a professional fighter. You’re a performing clown. That’s all you are.

‘So keep my name out of your mouth until you’ve done something in the game. I think this weekend, your world ends.

‘But if it doesn’t, and you are stupid enough to take a fight with me, when this right hand lands on your chin, it will put you into f***ing orbit and knock that stupid barnet off the top of your head.’

Froch went on to speak about how it wouldn’t take much for him to come out of retirement for the hypothetical fight, but insisted it would be a ‘mismatch’.

‘It wouldn’t take that much to fight Jake Paul, it wouldn’t take £30m,’ the former professional, who won 33 of his 35 professional bouts, said to IFL TV.

‘If a fight with Jake Paul genuinely transpired and he thought to himself, ‘Yeah I’ll take Froch on,’ which he never-ever would, because it would be ridiculous.

‘I might be 45 years old but any retired professional world champion that keeps themselves in good shape would have absolutely no problem playing with Jake Paul. It would be like a mismatch.’
