He Russian President Vladimir Putinhas granted Russian citizenship to Brazilian footballers Malcolm and ClaudinhoZenit St. Petersburg players, according to the decree published today on the official portal for legal information.
Malcom played for Barça in the 2018-2019 season at FC Barcelona, where he arrived from Girondins for 41 million plus one in variables, an expensive and failed signing since ernesto valverde he barely counted on him. A season later, the striker packed his bags for the St. Petersburg Zenith.

On the 18th, the general director of the soccer team, Alexandr Medvedev, reported that both players had received authorization to acquire Russian nationality and that they were now awaiting the date of the oath ceremony.
The Zenit executive stressed that Malcom and Claudinho’s obtaining Russian citizenship does not mean they can immediately play for the Russian team.
“Citizenship of the country is not equivalent to sports citizenship. Some time must pass before they can play for the Russian team,” Medvedev told the official TASS news agency.
Renewal until 2026-2027
Last September, the general director of Zenit told TASS that if the two players receive Russian citizenship it will be possible to discuss obtaining sports citizenship, which is equivalent to the right to play for the Russian national team.

Malcolm and Claudinho, Olympic champions with their country in Tokyo 2020, are 25 and 26 years old, respectively and have been playing for Zenit since 2019 in the first case and since 2021 in the second.
On July 22, Zenit announced the renewal of both players’ contracts until the end of the 2026-27 season.
