Anthony Watson will make his England start since 2021 in Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Wales.
The winger’s career has been crippled by leg injuries but he has been drafted in to replace Ollie Hassell-Collins in the No 11 jersey.
As revealed by Sportsmail, Watson is the only change to the starting XV that beat Italy at Twickenham in round two.
Warren Gatland predicted limited changes to the England team, claiming they will play ‘Warrenball’ style rugby in Cardiff.
And Steve Borthwick has stuck with the same combinations, with Owen Farrell and Ollie Lawrence at 10 and 12.
Anthony Watson has been named in the England starting XV for the first time since 2021
Courtney Lawes is back in the England match-day squad in a boost ahead of Wales showdown
Vice-captain Courtney Lawes returns to the bench and is in line to make his first test appearance since the summer tour of Australia.
Borthwick said: ‘Wales v England in Cardiff is one of the iconic rugby fixtures, steeped in history and always full of passion.
‘We know the Principality Stadium crowd will be in full voice and we will have to be at our very best to repeat the success we had in the last round against Italy.
‘I have selected a team that I think has the right players and balance to meet the particular challenges we will face this weekend.
‘I am delighted to have welcomed Courtney Lawes back to the squad after injury. His quality and experience has contributed to a focused training week, marked by the sort of competition and intensity we expect.
‘I could not have asked any more from all the players and there is no doubt that they can’t wait to be a part of this special occasion.’
