India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar are racing against time to recover from the all-important semi-final clash of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 vs Australia today, February 23. The Indian Express reported that Harman and Pooja both fell ill the day before the match and were admitted to a local hospital in Cape Town. He was released in the evening. However, his participation in the semi-final match is yet to be confirmed. Australia’s match will be India’s toughest match so far in the tournament. The Aussies are looking for their third title in a row and India needed their best players for the big game.

If Harmanpreet is ruled out due to illness, then Smriti Mandhana will take over the captaincy of the team. Harleen Deol is expected to replace him in the playing 11. If Vastrakar also misses out, India will be forced to make changes in the bowling as well. Vastrakar will open the bowling alongside Renuka Singh Thakur and in his absence Anjali Sarwani could be given a chance. It is also true that Harman and Pooja have not been in top form so far in this World Cup, yet any team needs its best players in big matches like semi-finals.
Harmanpreet has scored only 66 runs in four matches. But she is a big match player and gives her best when it comes to knockouts. Also, he is the captain and his leadership on the field will be sorely missed. Vastrakar, on the other hand, has taken just 2 wickets in the tournament but if she recovers in time, she will definitely play as she is a very good all-rounder.
If Harmanpreet and Vastrakar miss out, there will be more pressure on the shoulders of Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma in the big game. Meg Lanning’s team is the world champion and this team will have to make a special effort to win this match.
