Test cricket star Pat Cummins rushes back from India to Australia to deal with family issue 

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins has rushed home from India due to a private family matter, just one day after the side’s disastrous defeat in the second Test. 

The 29-year-old quick will fly back home to Sydney for a few days to deal with the family issue before he returns to India, with the third Test starting on March 1 in Indore. 

The Australian side has been thoroughly embarrassed after two horror defeats, with Indian already retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy despite two Tests remaining in the series. 

Cummins isn’t the first Aussie player to fly back home during the series, with legspinner Mitch Swepson returning to Queensland for the birth of his first child. 

Given there are 10 days between the second and third Tests, players are being given a couple of days off training – though after capitulating for 113 when victory appeared within grasp, no doubt many of the boys will be keen to hone their game and mindset in the nets. 

Before he left India, Cummins, whose horror dismissal was part of a 9/48 collapse, said the side needed to improve with the bat, but was cool and collected as always. 

‘I think there will be a review. Shot choice, did we go about it the right way?’ he said after the game.

‘I thought they bowled really well, it’s not easy out there, but perhaps some guys went away from their methods.

‘Each batter has their own way to go about it. I don’t think there’s any one size fits all rule.

‘Unfortunately, quite a few of us got out with kind of cross-batted shots, which might not be our preferred method.’
