The former German pole vaulter Tim Lobingerworld indoor champion in 2003, passed away this thursday in Munich at the age of 50 as a result of cancer, as reported by the family in a statement sent to the media.
“The ancient legend of the pole vault he fell asleep peacefully in the closest circle. He didn’t lose the fight against cancer, he won it his way,” the family’s statement said.
Lobinger, the first German pole vaulter to overcome the six meter barrier, after jumping 6.00 on August 24, 1997 in Cologne, was proclaimed a year later European champion on an indoor track in Valencia.
An indoor continental title that the German repeated four years later, in 2002, in Vienna.

Although Tim Lobinger’s great international success came in 2003 when he was crowned indoor world champion in the British city of Birmingham.
