Delhi Capitals, captained by Rishabh Pant, will play their first match of IPL 2023 against KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, April 1. There is no update yet on his recovery period but there is every possibility that Pant will miss this year’s IPL due to injury. On December 30 last year, when his car met with an accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, he had a narrow escape. Pant has had a knee operation and is walking with the help of crutches. With the IPL starting in less than 2 months, his chances of playing are looking almost impossible. In his absence, DC will need a new captain.

There are many contenders for the captaincy including opener Prithvi Shaw. But considering all the recent controversies, the DC management can’t leave it to Shaw. Not to forget, DC also have a proven leader in David Warner, who had a decent first season with the franchise in IPL 2022. Needless to say, head coach Ricky Ponting and the rest of the management have a job on their hands and they are racing against time to finalize their captaincy for IPL 2023.
Coming back to DC’s schedule, they open their season versus LSG in an away game and play their first home match in Delhi versus defending champions Gujarat Titans.
DC fans will be looking forward to three special games at home. One on April 11 versus five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), May 6 against RCB in Delhi and May 20 against Chennai Super Kings.
DC, like RCB, has never won the IPL title. In fact, since the league’s inception in 2008, DC made it to their first final only in 2020. They lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) in that final and finished as runners-up.
