Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Chetan Sharma has resigned from his post on Friday (February 16), according to board treasurer Ashish Shelar. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has also accepted the resignation.
The resignation comes after Sharma revealed behind-the-scenes talks regarding team selection and made shocking allegations on star batsman skipper Virat Kohli’s alleged tussle with former Board President Sourav Ganguly. 16). He also alleged that players in the Indian men’s national cricket team use injections to speed up their return to international cricket and often call doctors to administer injections.
Chetan Sharma made some big claims in a sting video of Zee News earlier this week. The BCCI had indicated that an explanation would be sought from him as contracted officials are not allowed to speak to the media.
The chairman of selectors had made some tall claims, especially against former India skipper Virat Kohli. In an exclusive sting done by Zee News channel, chief selector Chetan Sharma revealed that Kohli had told the media before the tour of South Africa that Ganguly did not try to dissuade him from giving up T20 captaincy after T20 World Cup 2021. At the end of the press conference in 2021, Kohli told the media that he was told by the selectors that he would no longer continue as ODI captain.
He said, ‘Virat Kohli felt that he had to lose the captaincy because of the BCCI president. There were 9 people in the video conference of the selection committee, Ganguly must have told them to ‘think once’ I think Kohli didn’t hear it, there were 9 other people including me and all the other selectors, BCCI officials – Kohli He might not have heard,” the former chairman of selectors said in the video.
